Aiki Budo

This Aiki Budo class is the blending of the formal art of Aikido and its predecessor—Daito Ryu Aiki-Jutsu. The primary focus is to use the practical basics of self-defense and joint manipulation for diffusing an attack, with the fluid finesse of Aikido to blend with the oncoming force of the assailant.

The founder of modern day Aikido (開祖 Kaiso) Morihei Ueshiba (lived 1883-1969) spent many years studying Daito Ryu Aiki-Jutsu and Jujutsu, and perfected the controlling joint locks and manipulation techniques with the graceful fluidity that we see today.

This art, Aiki Budo, will journey back to the roots of Aikido and return to the true basics of martial training by honing the body as a disciplined and controlled weapon for self-defense and practical technique execution.

The founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba said, “We must train to toughen the body and polish the spirit”. This Aiki Budo class offers the opportunity to do both in a safe and structured environment with students of all ranks and levels of experience.

Along with open-hand techniques, we will be integrating traditional weapons techniques with the Bokken (wooden sword) and Tanto (wooden knife) to continue the formal elements of ancient Japanese Samurai training.

The Aiki Budo class is designed with both beginners and advanced students in mind, as we train together in a safe, cohesive environment to learn and grow.

We invite everyone from ages nine up to enjoy this traditional training environment. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, as we are here to help you.
